Black People Talk is a not-for-profit organisation with big hearts and big ambition: to make the UK a place where Black people can thrive.
Black Students Talk (BST)
Black Students Talk is a peer wellbeing support programme for Black university students.
Everything we do at Black Students Talk is carried out for the benefit of students who self identify as Black (Black African, Black Caribbean, or Mixed with Black Heritage) in universities around England and Wales.
At Black Students Talk, we are here to:
Support the mental health and wellbeing of Black students.
Provide Black students with the tools to be able to advocate for theirs and others mental health and wellbeing
Explore the narratives around Black student mental health and change / reclaim the narrative to one that is positive
Understand the lived experiences and life events that shape the mental health and wellbeing of Black students in the UK
Increase the UK Black student community’s mental health and wellbeing awareness and understanding
Increase public awareness and understanding of Black student mental health and wellbeing
Black Students Talk Activities:
Co-design, develop, and facilitate peer wellbeing support groups, workshops, and psychoeducation resources for Black students.
Co-design, develop, and deliver wellbeing workshops and psychoeducation resources for Black staff; parents, carers, guardians, and friends of Black students; and non-Black students and staff.
Provide training opportunities for Black students to be able to facilitate peer wellbeing support groups in their institution.
Conduct co-design workshops with and for Black students to continuously provide quality services.
Carry out routine evaluations of BST services to improve design and delivery.
Organise and run public and stakeholder engagement events on Black student mental health wellbeing.
Conduct and disseminate research activities on Black student wellbeing.
Consult on matters of Black student mental health & wellbeing, Equality Diversity & Inclusion.
